Toy makers — EN71 support is in development
CraftCert today covers CLP labels for candles, wax melts, reed diffusers, and room sprays. Toy-safety compliance (EN71 / the UK Toy (Safety) Regulations 2011) is named in our original product concept but is not yet shipped. We're scoping it for a future CraftCert v1.x release and want to hear from toy makers before we build.
What EN71 actually means
EN71 is the family of standards behind the UK Toy (Safety) Regulations 2011. It applies to anything designed or clearly intended for play by children under 14 — plush toys, wooden toys, fabric toys, rattles, teethers, dress-up kits, and craft-kit components. Selling toys in the UK means meeting conformity assessment, UKCA / CE marking, age-grading, warning labels, and traceability requirements, plus the relevant EN71 physical / chemical / flammability sub-standards depending on what you make.
Most micro-makers find out about these requirements through a Trading Standards letter or an Etsy compliance email — by which point sales are already paused. The point of CraftCert covering this is to make the requirements visible up-front and the evidence easy to keep.
What CraftCert v1.x will cover
Per our product brief, the first wave of EN71 support will be:
- EN71 compliance checklists — a guided walkthrough of the requirements that apply to your specific toy type
- Age-grading guidance — what claims you can make, which warnings are required, which sub-standards are triggered
We haven't committed to a launch date yet — early intent below is partly what gates the priority. The deeper bits (third-party test-house introductions, technical-file template, declaration of conformity generator) are on the roadmap behind the checklists.

CraftCert already ships the same shape of tool — guided requirements, generated labels, exportable evidence — for candle, wax melt, reed diffuser, and room spray CLP labels. We're not a Notified Body and we don't do third-party EN71 testing — when EN71 support lands it will help you document and organise compliance, not replace the physical / chemical testing a Notified Body would run.
